Summer Training / Internship /Dissertation Work (DW) Programme for Post-graduate Students : 2016 

Objectives: The aim is to let young minds feel the thrill and excitement of science by working on a project requiring application and critical appreciation of scientific principles. It also aims at active participation in the learning process through experimentation and putting into practice the knowledge acquired in the classrooms. This program provides an opportunity to gain research experience and work closely with a scientist. Eligibility :  Student must be pursuing postgraduate courses from a recognized University/ Institute /college in the relevant area.  He/ She must have secured at least 60% marks throughout his/ her academic career (From Secondary onwards). Training must be essential for the candidate’s course curriculum. Application procedure: Application must include:  Bio Data and academic records of the student as per ‘APPLICATION FORM’ [Form A] provided below.  Recommendation Letter (in original) from HOD of the Institution /University. [as per ‘SAMPLE RECOMMENDATION LETTER’ format provided below]. [Application written by the student without any institutional endorsement will not be considered.]  Completed applications along with all necessary documents is required to be sent by post to the HRG address indicated at the end of the notice or may be delivered to the Receiving & Despatch Section, CSIR-IICB. Summer Training/Project Work/Dissertation Work Programme for Post-graduate Students

Objectives:

  • To ignite the young minds of India who are the foundation for cutting edge research.
  • To facilitate the learning process through experimentation and putting into practice the knowledge acquired in the classrooms.
  • To provide an opportunity for gaining research experience and working closely with the research scholars and the scientists.

Eligibility:

  • Student should be in the postgraduate courses from a recognized University/Institute/college in the relevant areasof Biological Sciences.
  • Training must be essential for the candidate's course curriculum, which should be endorsed by Institutional head.

Application procedure

Application must include:
  • Bio Data and academic records of the student given in the 'APPLICATION FORM'
  • Recommendation Letter (in original) of the Principal or Head of the Institution /University.
  • Application written by the student to the Director, NICED requesting the approval for the training.
  • Consent letter from NICED scientist [Scientist name is available at NICED website (www.niced.org.in)]
  • Completed applications along with all necessary documents is required to be sent to the address indicated at the end of the notice.

When to Apply:

Final applications (in hard copy) must reach to NICED Director's office at least 3 months prior to the commencement of the proposed training.

Training Fees:

  • Selected students to be considered for pursuing their Summer Training / Project Work /Dissertation Work at NICED will require paying (Rs. 3000/- per month) the admissible charges as per NICED guidelines. The payment is to be made during the first month of the project work in form of crossed demand draft in favour of"The Director, NICED" payable at Kolkata.

VSSC offers opportunity for project work (Main Project) to final year students undergoing the following courses, in limited numbers. M Tech/ME and MSc & MPhil (Physics/Chemistry) B Tech



Guidelines
1. For M Tech/ME and M Sc & M Phil (Physics/Chemistry) Studentshttp://www.vssc.gov.in/VSSC_V4/index.php/academic-project-work
• Maximum duration allowed for the project is 6 months for MSc & MPhil, and 12 months for MTech
• Pre-requisite for MSc project work is 65% marks (minimum) in BSc and for MPhil project work is 65%   marks(minimum) in MSc
• Students who intend to do the project work, starting any time in January to June should submit the application   and declaration in prescribed forms duly filled in all respects along with biodata on or before 15th November   of the previous year. Decision on the acceptance/rejection of the application will be communicated to the   college during December.
•Students who intend to do the project work, starting any time in July to December should submit the   application and declaration forms duly filled in all respects along with biodata on or before 15th May of the   same year. Decision on the acceptance/rejection of the application will be communicated to the college   during June.
•The applications should be forwarded to Head, HRDD, VSSC, ISRO P.O, Thiruvananthapuram 695 022
2. For B Tech Students
•Students studying in colleges within Kerala alone will be considered.
•The duration of the project work will be for a block period consisting of 6 weeks
  VSSC offers 8 block periods annually viz
i) 1st Jan - 15th Febv) 1st Jul - 15th Aug
ii) 16th Feb - 31st Marvi) 16th Aug - 30th Sep
iii) 1st Apr - 15th Mayvii) 1st Oct - 15th Nov
iv) 16th May - 30th Junviii) 16th Nov - 31st Dec
The student can choose one out of the eight block periods as given above.
•Applicants (a group of maximum 4) must be from the same branch, semester and college.
•Each general category applicant should have a minimum of 75% marks for the first five semesters.
•The application, in the prescribed form, completed in all respects by the applicants and duly approved by the   Principal, should be forwarded to Head, HRDD, VSSC, ISRO P.O, Thiruvananthapuram 695 022 to reach two   months before the block period (eg. apply before 15th Dec 2014 for the block period 16th Feb - 31st Mar   2015).
•Decision on the acceptance/rejection of the application will be communicated to the college or first applicant or the   contact person in VSSC.
General Note:
1.The number of students admitted for projects may vary due to facility constraints. It is the prerogative of VSSC to accept/reject the application for Project Work.
2.On account of the large number of applications normally received for project work, it may not be possible to accommodate all the applicants. Therefore the students are advised to identify other organisations also as an alternative, in the event of their application not getting through in the selection process.
3.Dual degree, Integrated PG, Internship, Industrial Training, Summer Training etc are not entertained.
4.Priority will be given to the wards of ISRO employees.

VISITING STUDENTS INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME

The Internship Programme is conducted by the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) with the aim of promoting interest in Scientific Research among other Institutions/University/College students. Candidates selected for this programme, will work on specific projects under the supervision the academic staff members of IIA. This programme runs throughout the academic year, except during May – July when IIA conducts Summer School Programmes.
Updates :
1) We are currently screening applications received during Jan-Feb 2016 ( VSP/2016/153 to VSP/2016/290).
2) Referees will be contacted if required.
3) Selected candidates will be informed by ~ 20 March 2016.
4) The next call for applications will be announced after May 2016.
Category of Students:
I. Course projects:
Students who are in the final year of B.E/B.Tech/M.Sc/M.Phil/M.Tech can undertake their final year project work towards partial fulfillment of their degree course in IIA. The duration of such projects can be from 6 to 9 months.
II. Short-term projects: Students who are in the pre-final year of B.E/B.Tech/M.Sc/M.Tech or final year B.Sc. or within 6 months after the completion of their B.E/B.Tech/B.Sc/M.Sc/M.Tech, can undertake a short-term project at IIA. The duration of such project is from 6 weeks to 6 months only.
III. PhD students from other institutions:
Students who are doing their PhD in other Institutions/Universities/Colleges can visit IIA for collaborative work with IIA faculty. The total duration of this collaborative visit must not exceed 3 months in an academic year.
IV. INSPIRE/KVPY fellows:
Students with INSPIRE/KVPY fellowship can undertake short-term projects with IIA faculty. The duration of the project is from 6 weeks to 3 months only.
V. Post-PhD:
Students who have submitted their PhD within the last 6 months can visit IIA for a period not exceeding 6 months. They will be given stipend from IIA only if they are not getting funding from any other sources.
Basic requirement: 
Consistently good academic record with more than 55% marks in Mathematics and Science from 10th standard onwards.
Financial support: 
(i) Students under this programme are selected under the following two categories:
(A) Without Stipend & (B) With Stipend.
(ii) Stipend of Rs. 10,000/ per month (pro-rated) 
given to students of category-B selected for internship at IIA Bangalore campus but no accommodation provided.
(iii) The student selected for IIA field stations with category-B are given Rs. 5,000/ per month (pro- rated) and accommodation may be provided depending upon the availability.
(iv) Return travel fare by second-class sleeper/bus from the place of residence/college to IIA 
at the time of joining given to students of both categories.
(v) Students of both categories are eligible for subsidized food in IIA canteens, access to library and computing facilities.
(vi) Local students, who are permanent residents of Bangalore City:
College students, who wish to pursue the projects related to their degree courses, are not given any financial assistance.
Students who have completed their degree courses in recent past (within 6 months) are given stipend of Rs. 5000/- per month if they are working at IIA regularly, and in some deserving cases full stipend may be given if staying in PGs/hostels.
(vii) Candidates who are INSPIRE/KVPY fellows/PhD students from other institutes and getting external funding/fellowship will not be given stipend and travel support. 

Terms and Conditions:
1. Towards the end of the tenure, the student must present a seminar and submit a project report signed by the mentor to BGS. This can be held in the last two weeks of the tenure. The mentor must arrange for the seminar and BGS must be informed about the date and time about ten days in advance. Representatives of BGS or a committee set up by the BGS will attend the talk 
and go through the report and evaluate the work. For candidates who fail to comply, the final payment of fellowship will be withheld, and the mentor may be restricted from taking new interns for next 6 months.
2. During the course of the project work, if the performance of the student is found to be not satisfactory, his/her fellowship will be terminated at any time.
3. Extension can be requested subject to satisfactory performance of the student. The total tenure, including the extension, should not exceed six months, except for the cases where the student is self funded or the project is part of a course extending more than six months. Such request for extension must be made at least three weeks prior to the completion of the current tenure.
4. The presence of the student in the institute is strictly needed on all working days except the cases of course related projects. They are encouraged not to take leave except under exceptional circumstances. They should inform the BGS and their guides about taking leave and the reason for it.

Summer Internships

RCI conducts full time Summer Research Programme (SRP) for about 60 students every year during summer vacations from May to June end for a period of minimum 45 days to maximum 60 days. Training is given on some of the selected research areas relevant to ARCI's ongoing R&D programmes. Initially students are divided into 5-6 batches, comprising of about 6-8 students per batch, to undergo orientation for about one week. After completion of the orientation, each individual student is assigned to a scientist. Under the guidance of the scientist, each student is expected to carry out an independent mini project. Students are allotted projects depending on ARCI's requirement and availability of the projects in areas of relevance to ARCI. At the end of the programme, students have to submit a report detailing the research work carried out. All students whose performance is satisfactory are issued a participation certificate upon submission of the report. Students who have completed their first year of M.Tech./M.E./M.Sc. or 2nd/3rd year of B.Tech./B.E. or equivalent are eligible to apply. If the students are interested they may approach for their final year project work also. Notice for Summer Internship and Project Work of students

studying in 3
rd
year of B.E/B.Tech for Summer Internship and from those studying in 1
st year of
M.E/M.Tech, 1st year of M.Sc and 1st year of MCA courses for doing Project Work at the institute.
Objectives:
To offer opportunities to eligible and interested students to participate in our ongoing research activities
for obtaining practical research experience at CSIR–CMERI in the field of Mechanical Engineering and
allied areas.
Duration:
For summer internship : 4 to 8 weeks during summer vacation (May to July)
For Project Work : Two full semesters (3
rd and 4th of ME/M Tech, M Sc and MCA)
Selection process:
Selection of interns from the applications received will be done on first cum first serve basis subject to the
fulfillment of Eligibility Criteria given below.

B.E./B.Tech students are eligible for summer internship programme only after completion of their
